Simple.

CheneyOn Life2 Comments

There comes a day when you want to white flag. When you want to throw up your hands and yell: “OK WORLD. I GET IT.”

No one wins because everything changes or does not change, and the stasis or the flux, whichever you are granted or burdened with, becomes your cross to bear. And sometimes you get both.

You wake up in your house and suddenly it doesn’t seem familiar. You could have sworn that you had picked up that pile of clothes on the floor and that you had wiped that smear from the mirror. You’ve been gone for a week, and you wonder whether someone has been using your house when you were gone, slipping into your home if not your body, and it’s true, you know. Ghosts live among us, and they live within us. As you drop things from your life – people and cigarettes and pounds and tears – you realize –

The only thing keeping you from you is another you.

The things that get in the way, the things that annoy, the things that hold back, the things that say no, or the things that say ‘yes’ too often, the things that hurt and the things that confound and the things that you think you hate, but don’t.

The words, sometimes. Sometimes the words keep you from that YOU you want to meet.

Sometimes you are the words.

You wake up one morning and nothing seems familiar. You want to pick up everything you see and throw it out the window and start over again. You are in a tiny little box filled with so many things you recognize and you can’t for the life of you understand why you have any of these stupid, insignificant little things.

It’s like when you’re hot and sick with fever and you start taking all of your clothes off. Piece by piece they fall to the floor. And your lip curls up and your hands form fists. There’s a growling sound coming from the back of your sore throat.

This is it, you think. It’s about that time. It’s getting to that point.

You can be whoever you want to be, because you don’t have one fucking thing to lose.

The only thing keeping you from you is another you.

Today’s photo a day prompt was SIMPLE, so here are some simple minded creatures.

  1. Literally the second before I read your post today, I read and shared this quote below on Facebook: Things staying the same would be worse than things getting worse. (via @pattygolsteijn) – The Art of Nonconformity I don't believe in coincidence. Both are messages I needed to hear today….
